In Search of the Freebie? 3 Surefire Ways to Find Free Stuff
Everyone is on the hunt for the freebie these days. But real free stuff can be hard to find. Many sites advertise free stuff, but with strings attached. There are no strings here. These are legitimate ways to grab some great free stuff. I know, I’ve done all three, and ended up with some amazing freebies.
1. Join Freecycling - a nonprofit dedicated to helping the planet
Freecycling is an entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns. Freecycling is when a person passes on, for free, an unwanted item to another person who needs that item. From kids clothes to lawnmowers, it makes sense to choose to donate to freecycle rather than to discard your unwanted items. This nonprofit estimates that this practice has kept 500 tons a day out of landfills.
How does this work? Members post their unwanted items for other members to claim. I regularly post and donate kids clothes that no longer fit. I have answered posts, and been gifted with many a great freebie, like a set of glasses, a captains twin bed (frame and mattresses), and pots and pans.
To get started, visit freecycle to find a group in your area. Currently there are 4,954 groups with 8,529,301 members. The best part? Membership is free.
2. Become a BzzAgent for this word of mouth marketing company
Bzzagent is a company that sends out free products to test, in exchange for your opinions. In the three years that I have been an agent, I have received many great products to try, like makeup sets, a sonic toothbrush, software, shampoo & conditioner, and food items.
From their site:
As a BzzAgent, you join a BzzCampaign to try new products and services from some of the biggest companies around. Share your honest opinions through reviews, Facebook posts, video testimonials, blog posts…however you want. As part of the campaign, you'll:
- Get free product samples to try yourself
- Help friends discover cool stuff by sharing your opinion
- Influence the brand with your feedback
- Plus, you'll often get free product samples for your friends, too. Sweet!
Registration is free.
3. Make a list of your favorite things
Contact your favorite brands and ask for coupons! Companies love to hear good things about their products and many times they will send you high value coupons (sometimes it’s even for a freebie) to reward your brand loyalty! Find their website, toll-free number, or mailing address on the product or through a google search, and tell them what you think. Remember to include your info. so that they can reach you.
I saved the best for last. My site now offers a new feature that I call the freebie section. Make sure you visit regularly, so that you can get the most up to date freebie offerings. Remember you can contribute your own frugal ideas and freebie finds to our freebie forums.
